Date: 2017-10-18 01:02 am (UTC)I'm thinking I may have to re-order the stories into chronological progression - I'm not sure that it's entirely clear what's happening here, but directly following the second story, I think it becomes a lot clearer that what's happened here is that the Widowmaker, a person constructed not to be a person, a person literally constructed to be a psychopathic assassin...
...has found her way to empathy, all on her own.
Not generally, yet, no, and she'll never be the best at it - Talon did some interesting and complex things to her mirror neurons, just for starters - but Emily (back in the second story) was right, that is what she was looking for, but not necessarily or just in someone else feeling it for her, but in her, feeling it for someone else.
The fact that she's legitimately into Lena doesn't exactly hurt anything either, of course. :D
