solarbirdThis morning, yesterday morning, Wednesday morning - for some reason, I'm just failing to get myself going on doing anything. Wednesday, it's 'cause I was going to be out in the afternoon. Thursday, I had to wait around for the plumber. Today, I'm waiting for the shipper to get here. Yesterday and today, I do need to be around or bad things will happen, but really, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to get some other thing done (besides making LiveJournal entries, I mean). Despite that, I persist in Not Doing Much of Use. And sitting on my ass all morning makes me feel sleepy, which makes it harder to get up and do things.
I hate wasted time. At least I got a lot of office maintenance stuff done yesterday morning. And in the afternoon actually did some good, re-siding the little stub where the plumbing used to go, the place that's been broken for literally - I guesstimate - 35 years. And which had hornets in it last year. I hate hornets. I hate hornets a lot. And while I was pulling out the broken bits, I looked up and suddenly there was the biggest hornet ever, stumbling around groggily. I think it was the queen. No, really, it was over an inch long and really fat, but definitely a hornet. Amazingly, despite being on a ladder, I did not leap immediately to my death. (I really hate hornets.) I know that a hive of bees will die back over the winter, and the queen is the last to die, so I'm trying to figure out whether she was the last of the old hive, or whether she just happened to stumble in there looking for a place to set up a new hive.
Either way, "AGH hammerhammerhammerhammer" and presto, no more hornet. Just a bit of hornet goo.
I'm pretty happy with how the new siding turned out, though. It almost looks like I knew what I was doing. ^_^
I also might have an idea for a sculpture made mostly from the broken piece of Bird in Hyperspace. I played with it some last night. It needs to sit out for a couple of days while I look at it every so often... the biggest concern I have is that it might not work for anybody who didn't see BiH. I think it will, I just don't know. I'd also like to work in the garden some. Well, I'd like to go buy some flowers and plant them in the northern bed, but that involves me not being within three seconds of the door to make sure the UPS bastard doesn't knock, turn, and run, before I can get there to sign the delivery receipt. (I hate UPS. I hate them hate them hate them. I'll pay triple to avoid shipping with them, but so much of the time, they're the only option available. And then it's literally just under a 50-50 chance that the package will be lost, damaged, or possibly stolen, and then it's four to six months of hell trying to get them to pay up on the insurance. They're incredibly awful here. Friends in other parts of the country tell me they're better other places. I find that hard to imagine, but accept it on their word...)
