Date: 2011-08-20 07:46 am (UTC)I should really watch Life Aquatic someday. I wrote it off as Dumb when I saw the original trailers, but I have been lead to believe this may have been a spurious decision.

So I can totally see the whole movie just not hitting most buttons. It's odd. But for me, it's odd in a great way.
Oh: one other thing. I can't stress strongly enough the importance of seeing it widescreen, vs. pan-and-scan. It's damn near visually incomprehensible, pan-and-scan. I'd always liked it despite that, and put up with the horrible visuals. Seeing it widescreen was kind of a revelation, since I hadn't seen it that way since one theatre showing Long Ago that I barely remembered.
