You know, *somebody* is gonna take serious, thirty-caliber offense at this. It's not gonna be me; I value my own hide too much. But *somebody* will.

"This will get out of control. This will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it." -- (now-Sen.) Fred Thompson, playing RADM Josh Painter, "Red October."

(The irony that that was Fred Thompson is NOT lost)

Are they, now? You saw what happened after the HCR vote.

Newton's law is universal (after all, it's just karma reduced to physics). For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The more bullets he sends out, the more will be pointed his direction.

He might get away with it this time. Or the next. Or the next. But if he keeps spinning that wheel like that, eventually he's gonna come up kaboom instead of click.

As for terrorists being easy to "excise"? Two words: Eric Rudolph. Only busted because *he* (Rudolph) was tired of running.

There's a several-million-strong activist movement devoted to getting all pissy about the health care bill. Is there any such group opposed to assassinating people? Especially brown people who say scary things?

I'm very afraid that any such attempt will only make them scream more loudly about how necessary it is "See? The Terrorists are after the President!!eleventy!"

I was going to post the whole of the Greenwald Olberman thing in my LJ, but thought I'd check to see if you had already covered it.

Of course, being me, I was gonna quote this part

Here again, we see one of the principal and longest-lasting effects of the Obama presidency: to put a pretty, eloquent, progressive face on what (until quite recently) was ostensibly considered by a large segment of the citizenry to be tyrannical right-wing extremism (e.g., indefinite detention, military commissions, "state secrets" used to block judicial review, an endless and always-expanding "War on Terror," immunity for war criminals, rampant corporatism -- and now unchecked presidential assassinations of American citizens), and thus to transform what were once bitter, partisan controversies into harmonious, bipartisan consensus

and say "I told you so" to everyone, which probably wouldn't endear me to anyone, but it was so fucking predictable (and not just on civil liberties).

I just had to come here and take a look and yes, I'm laughing my ass off at all of you. President Bush waterboarding three leading terrorists was wrong, evil, and over a year since he's gone you still rant about it.

But President Obama ordering the Assassination of an American Citizen? You not only give him a complete pass and refuse to get upset, but you find a way to pass the blame on to Republicans!

Words fail me in trying to describe such duplicitous behavior.

(Edit: This is aimed mainly at the people here trying to defend it. I can see you are not too happy with it, and I wanted to clarify the target of the above comments - not you, the Journal's Owner.)

What "people here trying to defend it" would that be? Prior to your comment, I see seven comments from a total of four people (not counting Solarbird), and not one of them is defending the Obama administration's actions in this regard.

Or there's the other thread, where I see one single person (Bruce9999999) asking "why it's different from WWII stuff". And even he says that he doesn't like hearing about the assassination order.
