Felt like *such* a huge, flaming, feminist trader at the caucus on Saturday. GLARING LOOKS FROM THE DYKES WHO "USED TO" be my friend. :( Sad face. Oh well!
Being serious for a second - yeah, I understand the feeling. I sympathise; it sucks. But, well, so does just about everything in politics, so, well, there you are.
Saturday at the caucus was pretty much UNsuck for me. I helped several people register to vote for the first time and the local minority community turned out in huge numbers, I was amazed. It was almost an out-of-body experience, and something I could never have predicted even 15 years ago when I was in college.
My caucus location had a really diverse turnout. Lots of African Americans out mostly for Obama, but also Latinos, Asians, lots of young voters, veterans, gay and lesbian voters of all generations. We only had two PCOs present for 14 precincts, though a husband of one of the PCOs was there to chair his precinct. That meant that we had 11 precincts where people with no history of party involvement volunteered to chair, and one of those was a kid who couldn't have been older than 18 or 19. There were people who registered to vote and were elected as Obama delegates, and five new people who've never been to a local Democrats meeting signed the PCO forms. That would double our current PCO representation, and more than triple the active membership. Hillary 's candidacy is certainly motivating some people, but I think it's Obama who's energizing most of the newer people who showed up.
The "LGBT" box on the form confused a lot of people, including one 50ish woman who asked about it and then wrote in "yes" after I told her what it meant(!) You'd think she'd know.
Absolutely! I was talking with one of the few friends of mine who's seen it, and he said something about his favorite scene. I thought for a minute and realized that I just couldn't pick. Comedy gold, start to finish. Thanks for reminding me of it, I'll have to see if my brother's copy is still around and watch it again on one of my days off this week.
She knew *exactly* what the American Enterprise/PNAC/Weekly Standard et al degenerates were thinking the day after 9-11. And *exactly* what they intended after such an event.
And for political expediency, she sent hundreds of thousands to hell and death. She STILL won't simply say "I fucked up" or better, "Good God, I'm sorry I fucked up". Because then, I guess, she'd have to explain why.
I'm thinking of getting a bunch of people from my district to go lobby our Congressman, who is one of the uncommitted superdelegates, for Obama. As an independent that leans Republican, that's saying something for me.
