macbook goes thunk die ;_;

So my Macbook just fell over ded. The HD is some variety of toast, I don't know what exactly but while Disk Repair (booted off CD-ROM) can see it, it can't touch it in any way. So, I'm kinda fucked on multiple levels, since this is also my recording machine. Anyway, this means you probably won't see much this week.

At least I have Time Machine backups. Yay.

thank goodness for backups. sorry about dead computer though. and you won't see much output from here either because our CD repro people are still struggling with (apparently) crapalicious file problems.

krypton must be retrograde, or something. :(

anyway, hope machine gets better soon.

Bummer. I actually had the exact same problem on my similar model Macbook about 6 months into its life.

The good news, I had applecare warranty and time machine backup, so it cost me being without the mac for about 3 days real-time, and I lost a few hours data, and it took like 90 minutes to restore from the Time Machine, and then it was like it had never happened from the point of the last time machine sync.

That 3 days real-time kind of sucked, though.

What is the lifespan of those HDs? That just seems extremely wrong.
