two stupid dogs

The big dog:
The majority of graduating(!) American college students can't read an editorial for content, compare credit card offers, or intelligently engage in other, similar, common tasks. The sad part is, this is an improvement. As in, this is better. God. (Pew Charitable Trust study information here, including the full report.)

The little dog:
Very, very, very, very unhappy with BSG 2.13/Epiphanies. Even aside from the whole bogosity of the cure for the President's cancer, dramatically, that whole story decision made no fucking sense. They didn't pull the trigger when they needed to, and that's a very bad indicator for the entire rest of the series; it says they'll set something really big up and then blanch away at the last second. That's really bad when the best part about the entire series is that they're willing to pull that fucking trigger.

They've gone soft in the head on us, and I don't like it.

Wow. That implies I'm more intelligent than the average college graduate in the US.

Why is it this bad? Simple - more than 50% of Americans go to college. Many (most, judging by this study) are incapable of college education, but because education from top to bottom seems to be dumbed-down in the US they can get that far.

The UK is going exactly the same way...and the only complaints are coming from the right. Which amazes me and makes me sad to be on the left.

This is so sad... and probably why I'll be taking a science or math next semester. I need to keep my brain honed with math skills.

I did read it; well, I skimmed over it. But yes, I agree.

Things like restaurant tips, and cost per oz of food, that's math.

regarding B5- I just watched it yesterday and I remember you and A posting something about it- though I didn't read it, Well I read it now and I completely agree.
I was thinking it was important for that trigger to be pulled... As much as I would miss the actress, I feel that the story is important. I am curious to find out why they did that.
