One of the reasons I haven’t been doing these lately

There are a bunch of reasons I haven’t been on top of the Fascism Watch agenda the last few weeks. Part of that is exhaustion, part of that is extra work, part of that is other financial stress – basically, there are a lot of reasons.

But part of it is that at least some of the media have finally, after all this time, caught up with me. At least on some topics. Check out Stephen Cobert’s monologue tonight, which starts with “Donald Trump is a Fascist” and just straight up lays out the case. He’s not joking, and he’s not even pretending that he’s joking, though he is inserting the occasional jokes:

He hits the main stories I was going to hit in the update I was trying to make myself put together tonight. He’s got Trump using Hitler and Mussolini language, calling Americans who oppose him politically “thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country,” promising to “root out” all of us. The statement from one of Trump’s campaign managers promising that his opponents that “their entire existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.” The former Trump aides saying Trump knew he lost but was going to stay in power regardless, refusing to cede the Presidency despite the election results. Miller’s plans for concentration camps and mass deportations.

He doesn’t mention the publicly announced and entirely visible plans to fire most of the civil service – particularly in Justice – to replace them with personal loyalists who will carry out his intent to jail opponents. But that kind of goes without saying with a Hitler wanna-be. It’s all part of Project 2025, the published plan I’ve been pointing to for months, which also outlines the fascist plan to eradicate LGBT people. He also doesn’t mention Trump’s plans to activate the Insurrection Act and use the miliary against protests or him boosting calls for a “citizens arrest” of Attorney Genreal James and Judge Engoron in New York, basically trying to get one of his followers to kill them for him.

But in a very real sense, that’s overloading with details.

When Stephen Colbert is finally saying what I’ve been writing, what I’ve writing – at least, in this area – seems to be gilding the lily.

I hope he doesn’t drop the ball. I don’t think he will.

I also hope it actually sinks in. I’m a little less confident about that. Because right now he sounds like me, and I … haven’t been real able to convince people of what’s directly in front of them, and believe me, I’ve been trying for a really long time.

I hope he has more luck than I have, and that he doesn’t leave it all on Trump, because believe me: the Republican Party, the core Republican party… at this point? It’s fascists all the way down.
