Twitter (neé “X”) is a fascist platform
I know I go off on this over and over again, but people are still staying on Twitter (“X”) and in doing so, are actively aiding Elon Musk’s project to use the former birdsite as a propaganda and disinformation fountain for fascism.
To wit: Twitter is returning political ads to the platform. I mean, of course they are. They claim they will have “a moderation team.” Musk has made these promises before, and thrown them right back out. But even if there is a moderation team, it will follow Musk’s plans, so I can’t stress enough: a moderation team of fascists is just a propaganda committee.
And that’s absolutely what Twitter will have. Let’s talk just the last few days, shall we? What’s happened?
- Political ads returned, or at least one did. It promoted the 14 words, the common post-World-War-II slogan of American Nazi and White Nationalist parties. It’s literally a recruitment poster. It’s tagged as an ad, which means it went through their advertising programme, which means Twitter approved it.
- In response to a meeting between the Anti-Defamation League and Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, fascists such as Nick Fu3ntes and others helped trend anti-Semitic posts under the “BanTheADL” hashtag, which trended across English-language Twitter.
- Elon Musk liked and replied positively to some of these posts, explicitly supporting calls to ban the ADL, showing his clear support for the entire movement.
- Any “moderation team” for political ads will act exactly like this. If they don’t, he will replace them.
- This is what Twitter is for now. If you participate in Twitter, you are helping in this work. Yes, even if you don’t pay him anything in dollars, you are making him – and the company – money.
There is literally no meaningful difference between Twitter and The Daily Stormer. They serve the same purpose: fascist propaganda. That’s how Elon wants it; that’s what he remade it to be.
If you choose to stay active on Twitter, you are literally choosing to help Nazis. The only thing anyone should be doing on Twitter right now is getting other people to leave and telling them where you’re going. That’s it.
But that’s not what’s happening.
The fash were able to punch Bud Light in the balls, real hard, for having one (1) interaction with a popular trans streamer, and through physical violence and intimidation knocked Pride out of Target. (And deal with it: that matters, and it matters a lot. We need Corporate Pride. Getting it was a massive win for us; we can’t lose it.)
The rest of the population – including “allies” – wouldn’t even give up a particular chicken sandwich when they were trying to end legal LGBT families, so I can’t even say I’m surprised at how many people won’t walk away from a former social media site turned into a literal fascist propaganda machine, but… goddamn… it’s still sickening.
I’m just gonna say it:
This is how the “mainstream” lets Nazis win. And the fascists know it.
It’s what they’re counting on.
